About the Fund
The Carlson Cares Fund was created, through a seed grant from the Carlson Family Foundation and ongoing employee donations, to support our colleagues and eligible family members during financial hardship due to a qualified incident. Carlson employees who are facing unavoidable, emergency situations are encouraged to apply. Some examples* include:
- Death & Funeral
- “My fiancé and the father of my two children passed away last night. He was only 33 years old. I have to pay for all funeral costs and burial plots. It was a sudden death, and I really have nothing saved to pay.” – Grant recipient who received $2,500 for funeral services
- Dental
- “I had terrible toothaches, and one of my molars cracked and needed to get a root canal and crown right away. Insurance only covered a portion of it, and my treatment plan to take care of it estimated my out-of-pocket cost at $3,438.” – Grant recipient who received $2,500 for dental bills
- Home Repair
- “A fire in the apartment above us flooded and destroyed almost everything, making our apartment uninhabitable. The building provided insurance but only covered liability for the building itself, no personal property, despite being told it did include personal property when we bundled through the property. Everything has been out of pocket.” – Grant recipient who received $2,500 for losses not covered by insurance
- Mental Health & Chemical Dependency
- “I suffer from bipolar disorder. As I have been experiencing a recurrence of symptoms, I have been accessing mental health care from a Registered Clinical Counsellor. My extended health benefits have run out, so I have to pay out of pocket for this expense.” – Grant recipient who received $2,500 to help with medical expenses
